DIDJ NUMBER - 624

I'll eventually run out of pieces to use from this Locust tree which stood on the edge of my yard, dropping tiny leaves that wouldn't rake up or suck into the mower. It also dropped branches and sent up shoots, both containing super sharp, needle like thorns. It was with much pleasure that I cut it down to open up more light for our garden, realizing that I just addressed two problems with one cut. My kids were both pleased when they saw it gone too. I never knew how much hate that tree must've felt when it was growing, so now it's time to turn it into pure love instead. Locust is very dense wood, and an appreciable quality of density is reflectivity. Many dense didges have a beautiful rich tone which sounds great when reflected back off of a wall, but can lack an interactive connection, which is Farfromgroovin'. I gave this didge an elongated bell section to add dynamic and create a more pleasing experience for the player, and also to add volume, enveloping the spaces within it's trajectory with it's sonic boom. It still maintains the nuances of dense wood. There's a lot to explore with it harmonically, and then it's eager to punch hard percussively, making it something of a Grunge Rock instrument. It figures, I grew up in Seattle, and that was my scene way before it was everyone's scene. Corporate rock sucks, still.
