DIDJ NUMBER - 347

This is the first didj I've made only using oils as a finish. It's out of bigleaf maple and has a pleasantly warmer sound than an epoxied bore without giving up any volume or sense of power. The mouthpiece is very comfortable and easily approachable with a narrow outside diameter. The sound is clean without being brite. It has a deep timbre and excellent balance. The trumpets can be pushed hard for dramatic effect or it can play the Ed Drury style 'tups' incredibly well. Same goes for the overblowns, either soft and subtle or hard and earth shattering. My biggest concern in contemplating shifting from epoxies to oils was whether my local woods would sound as good with an oiled bore and I'm very pleased to find that this is one of the best sounding didges I've ever made. I'm still concerned that the finish won't be as hard and that it'll be more susceptible to scratches and dents but you'll just have to love it like a skateboard and ride it hard because it's built to shred. I used only pure oils, tung, linseed, and citrus that I obtained from twisp enviromental. If you're a woodcrafter I reccomend you look them up.
I'll continue to experiment with oils yet also keep supplying epoxied sticks until I make my mind up later on as to what I can truly count on for providing a great sound, great looks, and dependable durability. My choosing to experiment with oils is in an attempt to make my business completely sustainable which I think should be part of every business plan. With your support I'll continue striving to reach the highest potentials in both crafting and social responsibility.
