DIDJ NUMBER - 269
This stick here was just hollowed and glued feb. 9th 2006 but it's been to 9 out of the last ten In-Didj-In-Us Gatherings because it was part of a tree in my frontyard that broke in a storm a few years ago. It used to have an old tire made into a basketball hoop hanging from it. It was part of the family. Most of the tree is still there and it sends up shoots everywhere so if whoever gets this stick also wants a live shoot to transplant you can have MY tree and YOUR DIDGE's mama growing at your hOMe too. As you can see in the group photo, this didj is shorter at only 49 1/2 inches and it's made in the same boreshape proportions as my giant rippers and so it sounds every bit as good as a giant and does all the same stuff very well. I'm surprised at how nice the balance is for a higher backpressure stick and at what good vocals and harmonics flow from such a compact package. The overblown note thang once again shines here and the first two trumpets come easily and hit clear and stable. I love the wood contrasts near the bell of milky blond to golden honey. Also lots of nice knots, figuring, and fiddleback. Sweet to look at. Sweet to play. Sweet sweetness!
