Okay it's hard to say anything about this didj without first addressing it's appearance. If you're out to win 'Most Beautiful Didj' contests this stick will put you in the winners circle time and time again. I'm certain it's the prettiest out of the 285 hardwood didges I've crafted.
The woodgrain has plenty of orange tones and caramels with grey and black spaulting and black fills. The long slender top end has a 5 foot gentle curve leading to a sharp knee one foot above a a wide knurled open spoon shaped bell. The knee can be pointed up to face the open side of the spoon toward the player or can dropped down to send the sound out to an admiring audience.
I was going for that stacked vocals effect when I planned it so long without really opening up too much and I totally nailed it. It plays so easy. The sound is somewhat warm and pleasant but don't get warm mixed up with quiet.
I just rocked this stick up at a jam along with some players who were involved in a loud-off along with some drummers who were feeling power in volume too and this didj stood it's ground. And shook the ground. It'll rock and pop with quick tongued rhythms or you can milk it sweet and slow with tumbling stacked vocals that sound like they're coming from a cave. It's got alpenhorn type trumpets that can be squeezed up and down rather than having to punch up for the next. I brought it to band practice too and played it 45 minutes straight very comfortably.
Finding, building, and playing this stick has been an incredible joy.
