DIDJ NUMBER - 577
As much as we love to think of didge as being a super low rumble most people play higher pitched instruments. The styles they develop playing 'fast stcks' often makes it hard to adjust to lower pitched instruments and it's hard to carry that inspiration across. At 6 foot 7 this instrument creates the right type of dynamic and backpressure that it's as easy to play as any nice didge in middle keys like a C#, D, Eb, or E. With alder being a softer wood I use it to its greatest potential usually in taming the tonality of overly aggressive shapes as it adds a warmth that makes it more 'emotional' rather than abrasive. In this shape, the alder draws the player even deeper into meditation and those haunting low tones create quite a journey. The trumpets and overblown are nicely matched to the volume of the fundamental, and the trumpets are easy to slide through very predictably. The vocals and harmonics loiter throughout the length and turn little shouts into full on conversations. As beautiful as it is fun.
